Off-road quad biking from Puerto de la Cruz
About this experience
A quad safari across the north of Tenerife that skips the tourist routes. You ride yourself, in convoy behind a guide, through villages, dirt tracks and a viewpoint at 900 m above sea level. The trip lasts about 2.5 hours and starts from a base in Puerto de la Cruz itself.
What you do on this tour
At the base near the Botanical Garden the guide goes through the safety rules and hands out the gear, including certified helmets and clothing in case of rain or cold. Then you set off.
The first stretch heads for Los Roques, an unspoilt beach looking out at the open ocean. From there you ride towards Los Realejos, where 30 minutes of off-road riding is waiting. It is the most demanding part of the route and the reason most people book this trip.
The high point is Mirador del Lance at 900 m above sea level, with a panorama of the island’s north coast. That is where we break for photos, a snack and a drink, before riding back down to Puerto de la Cruz.
Along the way you pass Canarian towns and villages that coaches never call at. This is the part of the island where people live rather than sunbathe.
Who this is for (and who it is not)
It works well for couples and groups of friends. One quad takes a maximum of 2 people with a combined weight of up to 175 kg. If you both hold a licence, you can swap places partway through.
The rider must carry a valid category B driving licence in physical form; a photo on your phone will not be accepted. The passenger must be at least 134 cm tall and 7 years old. If you are after quiet sightseeing with air conditioning, this is not the trip.
