Countries with direct flights to LPA from include:
- Germany (e.g., Düsseldorf, Frankfurt)
- United Kingdom (e.g., London, Manchester)

Poland – from which cities you can fly to Gran Canaria
As for Poland, some flights to Gran Canaria are seasonal. However, you can usually find direct flights from:
- Warsaw (WAW)
- Cracow (KRK)
If you’re planning a vacation to Gran Canaria, check first to fly out of Warsaw or Krakow – but before booking, it’s worth verifying whether a direct flight is offered during the period, or if you’ll need to transfer.
Gran Canaria airport – duty free zone
Gran Canaria Airport has a duty-free zone, typical for international flights. The terminal has “duty-free” stores for international passengers, as well as boutiques, souvenir, jewelry and perfume stores.
The duty-free zone is available to passengers on international flights (outside the Schengen zone or outside Spain) – that is, after security clearance in the departures area. There are also cafes, bars and restaurants in the terminal, making it a convenient place for a short stopover. It is worth remembering that prices in the duty-free zone are often attractive, but with popular products – perfume, alcohol, jewelry – you should compare with prices in the city, as sometimes the difference is not much.
If you plan to shop or want to use the duty-free zone – arriving a little earlier than usual will be advisable in order to calmly go through the check-in, look at the stores and take your time.
Distances from the airport to popular tourist destinations
Once you land in Gran Canaria, logistics – that is, transportation to your hotel or resort – are key. Here are some typical driving distances and times.
- Gran Canaria Airport (LPA) is located about 18 km from the center of the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (the island’s capital).
- To the popular resorts in the south of the island (such as Maspalomas) – about 25 km from the airport.
- Example: The distance from the LPA to the resort “Maspalomas Resort by Dunas” is about 34.5 km, driving time about 25-35 minutes.
- Cab from the center of Las Palmas to the airport costs approximately €35-40, but already to, for example, Puerto Rico – about €70.
- You can also get to the south of Gran Canaria from the airport by bus. The cost is about €5-6, and you can find the current schedule on Google Maps.
Tip: If your hotel is located in the southern part of the island (which is often chosen by tourists) – the transfer time from the airport will be relatively short, so good travel comfort. However, it is worth paying attention to arrival times – late evening may mean a less comfortable transfer.
Practical tips for travelers
- Check the timeliness of connections – although flights from Poland exist, their frequency and availability may be seasonal.
- Book an airport transfer – bus, cab or rental car: depending on your accommodation, choose the most convenient.
- Travel in a duty-free zone – if you want to use duty-free stores, include time to go through security checks and still shop quietly.
- Even before departure – check baggage conditions, airport arrival times, and travel document requirements (passport/document, etc.).
- Off-season departure – Gran Canaria has an advantage over many other destinations because the weather conditions are good for most of the year, which can be a plus for Polish travelers during the autumn-winter season.
Summary
Gran Canaria Airport (LPA) provides a convenient, well-connected entrance to the island of Gran Canaria. It has numerous connections from all over Europe, and for travelers from Poland – although requiring seasonal confirmation – direct flight options are also available. The airport’s duty-free zone makes shopping possible, and transfers to major tourist destinations are short and efficient.
