Why visit Puerto Rico?

Gran Canaria weather in Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico is one of the sunniest places in Gran Canaria. Thanks to its location in a valley sheltered from the wind, temperatures here stay between 24-28°C all year round. In winter, it’s a real refuge for those who want to escape the cold – the weather in Puerto Rico is favorable for beachcombing even in January!

Proximity to the ocean and beautiful beaches

Puerto Rico’s greatest treasure is its beaches. The main beach, Playa de Puerto Rico, impresses with its golden sand and gentle descent into the water, ideal for children. Also within walking distance is Playa de Amadores, considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Gran Canaria. With clear water, a promenade with cafes and sunset views, it’s the perfect place for an evening stroll.

Friendly tourism infrastructure

Puerto Rico Gran Canaria was designed with tourists in mind – everything you need can be found within minutes. Stores, restaurants, bars, car and water equipment rentals – all connected by a network of promenades and walking paths. At the same time, it is a much quieter place than the popular Playa del Ingles or Maspalomas.

The modern Mogan Mall is the perfect place to shop and relax. After sightseeing, you can relax in one of the many restaurants overlooking the mountains or the ocean. In the evening, Puerto Rico’s vibrant nightlife comes alive here.

Where to stay. Accommodations in Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico offers a wide range of accommodations, from luxury hotels to cozy apartments.
If you’re looking for complete comfort, bet on all-inclusive hotels with ocean views. For couples and families, apartments with kitchens and terraces are a great option. It’s a good idea to check for deals in advance – especially during the winter season, when the weather here attracts tourists from all over Europe.

There are also many small, intimate hotels and private apartments available. Puerto Rico is a steep town, so you will have to take a longer walk to reach the beach.

When is the best time to visit Puerto Rico?

Thanks to its microclimate, Puerto Rico can be visited all year round.
Summers are hot but not scorching (about 30°C), while winter temperatures rarely drop below 22°C. It’s one of the few places in Europe where you can sunbathe in December or January.
The best time to travel is from October to May – that’s when the weather is pleasantly calm and mild.

How to get to Puerto Rico?

Puerto Rico is located about 50 km from the Las Palmas Airport (LPA).
The most convenient way to get there is by rental car or by the Global 91 bus (about 6 euros one way), which runs from the airport directly to Puerto Rico.
It takes about 45 minutes to get there. For those traveling from the north of the island, we recommend the route via the GC-1 highway – a scenic but fast road along the coast.
