Sunset on Teide (with Cable Car Ride) and Stargazing with Dinner
About this experience
One trip, three very different things: a cable car ride above 3,000 metres, sunset from the trail below Pico Viejo and a night with telescopes inside the Teide National Park. Transfers from hotels in the south of the island or from Puerto de la Cruz are included.
What you do on this tour
You set off in the afternoon. Pickup happens between 14:30 and 16:30 depending on where you are staying, and we email you the exact time and meeting point after booking.
At the base station you ride the cable car up to over 3,000 m above sea level. From there a trail leads to the Pico Viejo viewpoint. It is a 40-minute return walk of medium to low difficulty. The view takes in the south of Tenerife and, when the air is clear, the neighbouring islands on the horizon.
Just before sunset, Teide casts its pyramid-shaped shadow across the landscape. That is the moment people come up here in the afternoon rather than the morning.
Back at the bottom there is a picnic-style dinner, and then Starlight guides set up the long-range telescopes. You look at planets, galaxies and star clusters while the guide explains exactly what you are seeing. On a full-moon night the eyepiece shows craters and lunar mountain ranges.
Who this is for (and who it is not)
It suits people who want to see Teide in a different way than at midday, in a crowd and in short sleeves. You need to be in reasonable shape, because the route uses paths and steps.
We do not recommend it for anyone in poor health, for example with anaemia, heart conditions or breathing problems, or for people with reduced mobility. Pregnant women cannot ride the cable car. Children under 8 cannot take part in this tour.
Practical information
The tour is led by an English-speaking guide. Transfers cover hotels in Costa Adeje, Playa de las Américas, Los Cristianos, La Caleta, Callao Salvaje, Playa Paraíso, Los Gigantes and Puerto de Santiago, plus Puerto de la Cruz in the north. We do not pick up in El Médano or Golf del Sur, so from there you make your own way to a meeting point such as Los Cristianos or Costa Adeje. Write your hotel name in the order notes.
Dress warmly and wear closed shoes. Anyone in sandals, shorts or short-sleeved clothing will not be allowed to join, because after dark the temperature can drop below zero. Your ticket with all the details arrives by email within 24 hours of booking, so keep it on your phone. Cancellation is free up to 72 hours before the start with a 100% refund.
If you are unsure whether the walk is within your reach, write to us before you book.

FAQ
Children under 8 cannot take part in this tour. Older children and teenagers are welcome, but under-18s may only join with the consent of an adult. The programme includes a 40-minute walk, so a child should be able to manage that distance on paths and steps.
Dress warmly and wear closed shoes. Anyone in sandals, shorts or short-sleeved clothing will not be allowed to take part. After dark, above 2,000 metres, the temperature can fall below zero, so a hat and a long-sleeved layer are worth packing.
The tour is led by an English-speaking guide, and the astronomy part with the telescopes is delivered in English as well. If you need a different language, write to us before booking and we will tell you what else we can arrange.
We provide transfers from hotels in Costa Adeje, Playa de las Américas, Los Cristianos, La Caleta, Callao Salvaje, Playa Paraíso, Los Gigantes and Puerto de Santiago, and from Puerto de la Cruz in the north. We do not pick up in El Médano or Golf del Sur. From those areas you make your own way to a meeting point in Los Cristianos or Costa Adeje.
The trail is sometimes closed because of ice or snow. In that case you skip the walk to Pico Viejo and watch the sunset from the La Rambleta terrace, right by the upper cable car station. The rest of the programme, the dinner and the stargazing, runs as normal.
Yes. You can cancel free of charge up to 72 hours before the start and receive a 100% refund. Your ticket with all the details, including the exact meeting time and place, is emailed to you within 24 hours of booking.
