Playa del Inglés is one of the most famous and lively resorts in Gran Canaria, being the center of mass tourism on the island. Below we give you the most important information about this place. If you are planning a vacation in Gran Canaria, it is worth considering this place as your base.
Playa del Ingles – where is it located
Playa del Inglés is located in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, on the southern coast of Gran Canaria. It is directly adjacent to the famous Maspalomas Dunes (Dunas de Maspalomas). Getting there from the airport takes about 25-30 minutes by car or by bus (lines 66 or 90) – in which case the trip can take up to 1.5h (remember that buses in the Canary Islands run quite irregularly and there are often delays). From the island’s capital, Las Palmas, you can get here in about 35-40 minutes by car.
Playa del Ingles – what can you find here?
The village offers almost everything you need during your vacation.
- Infrastructure: Numerous hotels (often the cheapest on the island), apartments, Irish bars, pubs and fast food restaurants.
- Malls: The most popular are Kasbah (nightlife center) and Yumbo Centrum, which is the world epicenter of LGBTI+ tourism with numerous gay-friendly bars, cabarets and drag queen shows.
- Attractions and Entertainment: Theme parks in close proximity include Holiday World Maspalomas amusement park (with bowling and karaoke), Aqualand Maspalomas water park, Sioux City Wild West town and Palmitos Park zoo.
Is it a good home base?
Yes, in our opinion Playa del Inglés is an excellent place as a base for exploring Gran Canaria. Thanks to its southern location and proximity to the GC-1 highway, you can reach almost any point on the island in less than an hour from here. It is an ideal location for those who want to combine beachcombing with access to a wide range of dining and entertainment options. For almost all of the tours you can book on our website ( 👉 check out our offer here) we will pick you up from this area.
Gran Canaria weather
The climate is mild and conducive to relaxation all year round:
- Spring/Autumn: Temperatures range between 20°C and 26°C.
- Summer: Average around 28°C, with very warm nights conducive to fun.
- Winter: Very mild, with temperatures rarely falling below 14°C, which attracts tourists from colder parts of Europe.
Playa del Ingles – beach and amenities
The Canary Islands are famous for their beautiful beaches. Playa del Ingles is considered one of the prettiest beaches in Gran Canaria. The beach is about 3 kilometers long and 100 meters wide, characterized by golden sand and calm waters. It stretches from El Cochino beach all the way to the headland of Punta de Maspalomas. It is considered very family-friendly – the water at the shore drops gradually, which is safe for the little ones. Along the beach runs a promenade with numerous stores and restaurants. Walking along the beach you can reach the Maspalomas Dunes, which are one of the most characteristic places in the region. We especially recommend walking at sunset, when the views over the dunes are amazing.
It is worth remembering that due to its popularity, Playa del Inglés can sometimes be a crowded and noisy place, which may not suit those seeking absolute peace and quiet.
