Teide & Masca - Tour with a Polish-Speaking Guide from Northern Tenerife
About this experience
A full-day tour from Puerto de la Cruz taking in four of the most distinctive places in western Tenerife. An air-conditioned coach, a guide throughout and back at your hotel by around 17:00. It runs on Wednesdays and Saturdays only, and is guided in Polish.
What you see along the way
The first stop is Icod de los Vinos and the Drago Milenario growing there, a dragon tree said to be a thousand years old. The town is also known for its vineyards and the green valleys visible from the same spot.
Next you stop at Mirador de Garachico. From above you can see the whole town, rebuilt after lava buried its harbour in the 18th century. The street layout and the black rock along the shore tell that story better than any information board.
Then you drop down to Masca, an old settlement tucked between steep hills and palm gardens. The hairpin descent is part of the attraction, with photo stops on the way.
The last stop is Las Cañadas del Teide National Park, the caldera at around 2300 m above sea level. Frozen lava flows, sheer drops and rock in unusual colours. The endemic plants here grow nowhere else in the world, and the clouds usually stay below you.
There is a café and a souvenir shop at the cable car base station. The ride up to 3555 m costs extra: 49 euros per adult and 24.50 euros for children aged 3 to 11. You must declare it when booking by selecting the option in the form. The return journey runs through the Orotava Valley, past vineyards and terraced fields.
Who this is for (and who it is not)
It is a good pick if you are staying in Puerto de la Cruz and want to see the west of the island plus Teide without hiring a car or planning a route. It works with children too, and toddlers up to 2 travel free if they sit on a carer’s lap.
Lunch is not included. You can buy sandwiches and snacks at the stops, but if you want a tour with a meal built into the programme, choose a different one. The group is around 30 people, so this is not a small-minibus trip.
Practical information
Departures run on Wednesdays and Saturdays only, from Puerto de la Cruz. We collect from your hotel or nearby, and the exact place and time are given on your ticket. Write the name of your hotel in the order notes.
The caldera can be cold and windy even when the coast is warm, so bring closed shoes and something with long sleeves. Cancellation is free up to 72 hours before the start with a 100% refund.
If you are staying in the south of the island, write to us. We run versions of this route departing from there.
