Flavours of Tenerife - half-day tour in Polish with wine tasting
About this experience
For this tour we pick you up from your hotel in the south of Tenerife, anywhere from Los Gigantes to Golf del Sur, and head for the mountains. It is a small-group tour with a Polish-speaking guide from the south of Tenerife, combined with a visit to Vilaflor, the highest municipality in Spain. You will visit a beautiful wine region where, of course, you will taste the local wine, stop at an aloe vera farm and visit a shop selling handmade jewellery made from natural stones, including olivine, a mineral typical of the Canary Islands.
Island tour with wine tasting in Tenerife, what is it like?
Our adventure begins with one of the most distinctive products of the Canary Islands, aloe vera. You will visit a local plantation, where you will learn how this remarkable plant is grown, how the “liquid gold of the Canary Islands” is made and what aloe vera products can do. There will also be time to buy unique local cosmetics and skincare souvenirs.
Then you head towards the mountains. Along the way you stop at a spot with an impressive view over the south coast of Tenerife. It is one of those moments when it is worth putting the camera down for a while and simply looking.
The next stop is Pino Gordo, a mighty, distinctive pine tree growing near Vilaflor. According to local tradition the tree makes wishes come true. Of course, we will tell you exactly what you need to do for that to happen.
After meeting Pino Gordo you drive on to Vilaflor, the highest town in Tenerife. Strolling through its quiet, narrow streets, you will see a completely different side of the island, far from the bustle of the coast.
There will also be a moment for a traditional Canarian coffee and a local treat, almond biscuits, which you can take home as a sweet souvenir.
And once your appetite is properly whetted, you move on… Time for wine!
You will visit a traditional local bodega, where a tasting of 5 Canarian wines awaits you, along with traditional Canarian cheese, potatoes with mojo sauces and other snacks. But this will not be an ordinary tasting. You will see the vineyards and learn how the wine that will soon be in your glass is made. You will go behind the scenes of production and hear the story of the place and of the people whose families have been tied to the vines for generations. This is where you will discover that wine tasting is not just about flavour. It is also about the place, the tradition, the atmosphere and the story of the people who create it. After the tasting you set off back to the south, but before the trip ends there is one more unusual encounter.
You will visit a shop selling handmade jewellery from natural stones, run by Mr Leszek and his son. It is a small family business where you can find a truly special souvenir from Tenerife, something completely different from the usual shop magnets and trinkets.
A small group. Lots of local stories. This tour is not a race from one attraction to the next. We want you to have time to see, listen, taste and talk.
In about 4-5 hours you will discover several different flavours of Tenerife, from aloe vera through almond biscuits and Canarian coffee to local wine. And above all, you will meet people who talk with passion about what they do.
It is a perfect half-day tour from the south of Tenerife, especially if you want to spend a few hours exploring the island and keep the rest of the day for the beach, the pool or a relaxing evening.
During the tour you will collect a few “Canarian ingredients”, a plant, a view, a flavour, a story and local craftsmanship. In the end you will find that each of them tells a different part of Tenerife’s story.
Because you do not get to know Tenerife through places alone.
You get to know it through its people, flavours and stories.
