Dolphin-watching sailing trip, 3h
About this experience
Three hours under sail in a group small enough to fit on one boat. There are no more than 11 people aboard, so nobody queues for a spot at the rail. You watch for whales, then anchor in a cove for a snack and a swim.
What you do on this trip
You leave from Puerto Colón and head along the south coast of Tenerife, where the whales stay all year round. The best odds are on pilot whales, resident here and feeding on squid. Larger whales, dolphins and turtles pass through these waters too.
The second half of the trip is the stop in a cove. The engine goes quiet and you have time for snorkelling, jumping off the boat and swimming. A snack and drinks are waiting on board, so there is nothing to bring beyond a towel.
The boats we work with have a bathroom, proper seating and a sunbathing deck. There is also space below deck to get out of the sun, which over three hours on the water matters more than you would think.
Who this is for (and who it is not)
It is a good choice if you would rather not sail on a large catamaran with a hundred other people. A small group means a calmer deck, more room at the rail and more freedom once you are in the cove.
If you want a full-day cruise with lunch, or entertainment laid on for children, this is not it. These are three quiet hours where most of the action happens in the water. And nobody can promise you whales, because they are wild.

FAQ
A maximum of eleven people sail on the yacht. The group is deliberately small, so the deck stays calm, everyone gets a place at the rail while watching for whales, and nobody has to queue to jump in once you reach the cove.

The best chance is of pilot whales, which live in the waters around Tenerife all year and feed on squid. Larger whales, dolphins and turtles also pass through. No sighting can be guaranteed, as these are wild animals living freely in the ocean.
