About this experience

A full day trip into Teide National Park for guests staying in the south of Tenerife, guided in Polish. We travel by air-conditioned coach with pickup from your hotel, and the route is planned so there is time to look around rather than rush between stops.

What you see along the way

The first stop is Vilaflor, the highest village in Tenerife. This is island life away from the hotel strip: vineyards, terraced fields and quiet streets. Just after it we stop at Pino Gordo, a pine tree that carries real meaning for local people.

Then we drive into Teide National Park, with stops including Los Roques de Garcia. The landscape here resembles the surface of Mars, and that is not just a phrase: scientists test rovers in the park and film crews shoot here. Mount Teide itself, at 3,715 m, is one of the tallest volcanoes in the world when measured from the ocean floor.

On the way back we stop at Narices del Teide, the scar left by one of the eruptions, and then in Guia de Isora, where you can taste local products and buy souvenirs in a village shop.

The cable car: worth it or not

The cable car ride to 3,555 m is an optional extra costing 49 euro for an adult and 24.50 euro for a child aged 3 to 11. You select it in the booking form. We think it is worth it, because the air up there is already thin and the view takes in the island and the ocean. You get roughly 30 to 40 minutes at the top, enough for one of the two short viewpoint trails.

Anyone not going up stays at the base station, where you can walk around or eat at the restaurant in the middle of the park. Lunch is not included in the tour price.

Who this is for (and who it is not)

It suits people who want to see the interior of the island with commentary in Polish, families included. The coach climbs high on winding roads, so bear that in mind if hairpins do not agree with you.

The cable car is not available to children under 3, pregnant women or anyone with medical contraindications, including circulatory and breathing problems. The tour itself is still open to them, simply without that part.

Practical information

Departures run on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. We pick you up at your hotel or close to it in Los Gigantes, Puerto de Santiago, Alcalá, Callao Salvaje, Playa Paraíso, La Caleta, Costa Adeje, Playa de las Américas, Los Cristianos and Golf del Sur. Write your hotel name in the order notes, the notes field appears once you go through to payment.

Above 3,500 m it feels far colder than on the coast and the ground is stony, so bring warm clothing and comfortable lace up shoes. The operator may change the route because of weather or traffic restrictions.

If you are staying in the north of the island, write to us, as we run a version of this route from that side.
