Parachute flight behind a speedboat (parascending)
About this experience
Parascending is a flight under a parachute towed by a speedboat. You take off and land on the boat’s platform, so there is nothing to do except settle into the harness. The whole activity lasts about an hour, of which roughly 15 minutes are spent in the air at around 50 metres.
How it works
We meet at Puerto Colon marina in the south of Tenerife. Arrive about 20 minutes early; the exact time and meeting point are printed on your ticket.
First you head out on a fast boat onto the open Atlantic. On the way the crew explains how the take-off and landing work, so the briefing is done before your turn comes. There are no more than 10 people on board.
Then you step onto the platform at the stern, where you are clipped into the parachute. The boat accelerates and moments later you are airborne. You can fly on your own, as a pair or three at a time, and the crew decides who goes together based on the conditions they monitor throughout.
From 50 metres you see the whole coastline: Puerto Colon marina, the beaches of Playa de Las Américas and, on a clear day, Mount Teide inland. The wind is the only sound, because the engine stays far below you.
At the end the boat slows and lowers you back onto the platform. If you want, the crew can bring you in low enough to dip your feet in the water.
Who it suits
This works well for families, as the minimum age is 3 and a child flies harnessed alongside an adult. You wear a life jacket throughout. If you are after serious adrenaline, look elsewhere: parascending is calm and feels more like slow lifting than a jump.
Practical details
The activity starts at Puerto Colon and takes about an hour, counting the boat ride, the preparation and the flight. Your ticket with all the details arrives within 24 hours of booking, and the electronic version is enough. Minors take part only with the consent of an adult.
The crew monitors the weather and decides the order of flights and how many people go up together. You can cancel free of charge up to 72 hours before the start with a full refund. Extras such as photos are paid on site.
