An evening buggy tour on Tenerife that ends with sunset above the clouds. You drive yourself, but you ride in a group behind a guide, so there is no route to find and no photo stop to miss.
What you do on this tour
It starts with a pick-up from your hotel and a transfer to our base. There you get a short briefing on handling the buggy and on safe driving, all the equipment you need, and you meet the guide who will lead the group.
Then you set off towards Teide National Park. The route climbs to around 2000 m above sea level, where the landscape is nothing like the coast: hardened lava, Canarian pines and open ground around the volcano.
At that height you are often above the clouds. Tenerife’s sea of clouds sits below you and the sun goes down over it rather than behind a horizon. That is the reason this tour runs in the evening rather than in the morning.
After sunset you ride the same route back to base. It gets cold up there once the light goes, so a hoodie or jacket genuinely matters, however hot it was at sea level.

A good pick for couples and families with teenagers who want to see Teide from something other than a coach window. Driving a buggy is simple and the briefing is enough to start with no experience.
This is not an off-road tour. If you want dust, dirt tracks and rocky climbs, take the off-road buggy trip instead. Here you stay on roads and the point is the scenery and the sunset.
Practical details
The tour lasts about three hours. A hotel transfer is available for guests staying in Los Cristianos, Las Americas and Costa Adeje. If you have a car and prefer to drive to the base yourself, tell us and we will send you the location and meeting time.
A buggy carries two people, a driver and a passenger, and their combined weight must not exceed 160 kg. Four seat buggies are also available, and you pick the option when booking. The driver needs a valid category B driving licence and must carry it. A passenger can be a child from the age of 10 who is taller than 134 cm.

The road to Teide
You set off as a group behind the guide towards Teide National Park, driving uphill on roads through solidified lava and Canary pines.
Above the clouds
The route climbs to about 2,000 metres above sea level, where you are usually above Tenerife's sea of clouds.
Sunset
You stop for the sunset over the cloud layer. This is the best moment for photographs.
Back to base
After sunset you ride back to base. It gets cold at that altitude in the evening, so bring a layer.
