Buggy Tour with a Banana Plantation Visit
About this experience
Three hours at the wheel of a buggy along the southern coast of Tenerife, finishing at a traditional banana plantation. You drive yourself, with a guide leading the convoy and keeping the route on track. No experience is needed, just a category B driving licence.
What you do on this tour
The route follows dirt tracks along the south of the island, across volcanic slopes with the ocean in view. You ride in convoy behind the guide, with short stops for photos and a breather. The whole tour lasts about 3 hours, including the plantation visit.
Before setting off you get a short briefing on handling the buggy. The controls are simple and intuitive, so people who have never driven one are usually fine within minutes. Safety gear is provided on site.
The most interesting stop is the Canarian banana plantation. You see what the crop looks like from the field, why bananas from the Canaries are smaller and sweeter than the supermarket kind, and what part they play in the local economy.
There is also a tasting at the plantation. You try local products and traditional sweets made with Canarian banana, which makes a natural break in the middle of a dusty day.
Who this is for (and who it is not)
It suits people who want to drive themselves and see a piece of the island beyond the resorts. It works for couples and for families, since the buggies come in two-seat and four-seat versions.
Only a person carrying a valid physical category B driving licence may take the wheel. Children ride as passengers: from age 8 and over 135 cm in a two-seat buggy, and from age 2 in a four-seat one. If dust and noise are not your thing, take a minibus tour instead.
