About this experience

This version combines two things: a warm dinner before you head out into the cold, and a full telescope session in Teide National Park. You drive yourself, so it costs less than the version with transfers, and the food and drinks are included in the price.

How the evening works

We meet at a Canarian restaurant, whose pin we send after purchase. The evening opens with local food and drinks. Take your time over it, because from then on you are outdoors for several hours.

After the meal we step outside for the sunset. Once the sun drops below the horizon we move a little higher, to around 2000 m above sea level, where the glow from the resorts no longer reaches and the first stars appear very quickly.

The guide traces specific constellations and key stars with a powerful laser, explaining how directions are read from them. Then the telescopes come out: the Moon with its large craters (if it is visible that night), planets, nebulae, star clusters and double stars. In favourable conditions the Andromeda galaxy too, and at certain times of year the Milky Way.

Photos are taken on your own phone held to the eyepiece, so you go home with your own shot of the Moon rather than a downloaded one.

Who this is for, and who it is not

It suits couples and anyone with a car who wants the whole evening handled: dinner, sunset, stars. Mount Teide is 3718 m high and the highest point in Spain, and the park is a certified stargazing location.

If you have no car, take the version with hotel transfers. Driving down the mountain in the dark is demanding, especially on hairpins you do not know.

Practical information

The price is 65 euros per person and covers dinner with drinks plus the whole astronomy part. It does not cover transport. The meeting time depends on the season and on sunset, exact details follow after booking and your ticket arrives by email within 24 hours.

Dress warmly. In winter, from December to February, the temperature at this altitude runs between 2 and 10 degrees, and it drops further after dark. Under 18s can take part only with an adult’s consent. The operator may offer extras on site, such as photos, payable separately. Cancellation is free up to 72 hours before the start, with a 100 percent refund.

If you would rather skip dinner, there is a shorter version with just the sunset and the telescopes.
