Stargazing with dinner
About this experience
Tenerife ranks third in the world, after Chile and Hawaii, for night sky conditions. This tour makes the most of that in the most agreeable way possible: tapas and wine at a local restaurant first, then sunset, then the telescope. The whole evening takes around 5 hours.
What you do that evening
We pick you up at your hotel in the south of the island, around Costa Adeje, Playa de las Américas, Los Cristianos and La Caleta. The time depends on when the sun sets that day, so we confirm it in a separate message after you book.
A winding road alongside Teide National Park takes you up to a small village and a local restaurant. They serve Canarian specialities, and a tasting of local wines comes with it. For anyone not drinking, or driving, there are other drinks including soft options.
Once the meal is over the guide takes the group outside for the sunset. This is the calmest part of the evening and usually the part people remember, particularly if you have something to celebrate.
After dark, when it is properly black and cold, the guide sets up a professional telescope. You hear what is actually above Tenerife that night and see the most interesting objects up close: planets and stars you will not pick out from a hotel terrace.
Who this is for, and who it is not
Groups are small, so it works well for an anniversary, a birthday or a first trip away together. It also suits families and anyone who cares about local food as much as about astronomy.
If you want a quick activity, or you prefer sightseeing in daylight, this is not it. The evening runs about five hours, finishes late, and much of it happens outdoors in the cold.
Practical information
The price is 85 euros per person and covers hotel transfers, dinner, drinks and the astronomy part. You can also make your own way there by ticking that option on the form. Write your hotel name in the order notes, and your ticket with the exact time and meeting point arrives by email within 24 hours.
Our team keeps an eye on the weather, since visibility depends on it. The operator may offer extras on site, such as photos, payable separately. Under 18s take part only with an adult’s consent. Cancellation is free up to 72 hours before the start, with a 100 percent refund.
If you have a particular date in mind, book early, because the groups are deliberately small.
