About this experience

Two hours of buggy driving on dirt tracks, without a single metre of tarmac. You drive yourself, and the route runs through Barranco del Berriel near Bahía Feliz. No experience is required, just a driving licence and the acceptance that you will come back covered in dust.

What you do on this tour

The route crosses a dry ravine in the south east of Gran Canaria. You drive in convoy over rocky sections, ruts and tight bends, so the buggy is working almost the whole time. The drive lasts about 2 hours and takes place 100% off paved roads.

The landscape is desert like and heavily folded. Wind and water shaped the rock here, which is why you pass the natural hollows known as pilancones, filled with water after rain. This is the part of the island you will not see from a coach window, because no asphalt road leads there.

Along the way you stop at Presa del Conde, also called La Monta. A reservoir in the middle of parched terrain looks out of place here, and it is the best photo stop of the whole ride.

Before the start you get a short briefing on handling the buggy and a pair of protective goggles. There is plenty of dust, so a bandana or face scarf helps. If you do not have one, you can buy it on site.

Who this is for (and who it is not)

It suits people who want to drive themselves and do not mind the shaking, the noise and the dust. It works well for couples and groups of friends, because everyone is in on the action rather than watching it.

If you are after calm sightseeing with commentary, views through glass and coffee stops, this is not it. Only someone carrying a physical driving licence may take the wheel, a scan on your phone will not be accepted.
